Reclaim Your Creative Energy

Has your craft space become a catchall zone for clutter and unfinished projects? You’re not alone. We know that keeping your space organized and primed for creativity isn’t always easy. That’s why we’ve created this guide to help you make space for creativity with five simple tips that don’t require a complete room overhaul. These tips are designed to help you free up space, both physically and mentally, so you can get back to what matters—creating.

Tip #1: Start with a 15-Minute Tidy

Looking at your craft room as one big, overwhelming project can keep you unmotivated and lead to quick burnout. Instead of trying to tackle it all at once, start by clearing just one surface.

Here are some steps to get you started:

  1. Choose one area (e.g., table, drawer, shelf, or cluttered corner).
  2. Set a timer for 15 minutes.
  3. Take everything from that space and lay it all out on the floor.
  4. Separate your supplies into piles. You can categorize by type, season, brand, or whatever makes sense to you.
  5. Create a donation and/or trash pile. Think about when you last used all of your supplies, and if you don’t plan on using something again, give it away!
  6. Create a plan to keep your supplies organized. Consider which storage solutions and accessories will be most effective for organizing these supplies and keeping them accessible as you craft.

Tip #2: Create Zones for Your Craft Types

Crafters often dabble in a variety of hobbies, which can lead to a tangled mess of supplies and misplaced tools. The fix? Give each hobby its own zone. Depending on the number of supplies you have for each hobby, designate either a drawer or a cabinet for each different craft type. For example, if you enjoy both paper crafting and jewelry making, be sure to keep your embellishments and your metal findings separate from each other. One great way to give each hobby its own zone is with our Craft Storage Cabinet Kits. With options curated for Paper Crafters, Jewelry Makers, Quilters, and more, organizing each hobby in its own beautifully curated cabinet has never been easier.

Tip #3: Make Your Workspace Work Harder

Elevate your craft room by integrating a multi-function craft station like the Craft Island. Use this all-in-one crafting workspace and storage solution as the centerpiece of your creative space. The Craft Island features a large worktop and customizable Drawer, Paper Shelf, and Adjustable Shelf configurations on both sides. With included casters for easy transportation in your space, this mobile workspace is ready to move with your creative flow.

Tip #4: Store It Where You Use It

Stop running across the room to get your favorite supplies. Keep your frequently used tools and supplies closest to your main workspace for easy access. Before you start working on a new project, gather all of the supplies you need and bring them to your workspace. With our Craft Storage Cabinets' removable drawers, it’s easy to take what you need where you need it.

Tip #5: Label Like a Pro

Make your supplies easy to find (and return) by labeling them. Use Label Holders to keep your labels secured to each drawer, and quickly change out labels when you reorganize. If you organize your supplies by color, try using small strips of colored cardstock in your Label Holders for easy identification. When organizing by brand or theme, consider using a different font to distinguish between categories.
